What is the Hype about Essential Oils?

Everybody talks about essential oils in these days. They seem to be the new cure-all for all kind of ailments.  Well, essential oils can’t necessarily cure, but they can support your body’s natural ability to regulate and return to normal functioning, and strengthen overall health.

Some of the benefits essential oils offer include:

  • Supports the body’s natural ability to fight inflammation
  • Helps the body fend off viral and bacterial infections
  • Contain high levels of anti-oxidants which protect from free radicals
  • Anti-spasmodic, meaning they relieve cramps and spams
  • Improve gastrointestinal functions
  • Help relieve depression, anxiety & irritability.

While traditional medicine and the FDA don’t officially endorse the efficacy of essential oils, there a lot of scientific as well as empirical studies that attest that essential oils aren’t just voodoo ideas but have actual and proven effects on the human body and mind. Many users of essential oils would agree that essential oils have improved and helped them with one ailment or another.

What are Essential Oils?

They are oils that are extracted from plants and trees, in particular flowers, leaves, grasses, seeds, roots, needles, twigs, and bark, all of which contain compounds that are beneficial to our health and can enhance our well-being.

The oils are extracted from plants and trees either via steam distillation, water extraction, cold-press, or solvent extraction.

Most essential oils are derived through steam distillation which is a gentle method of extracting the oils while preserving all their natural powers.  As is cold-pressed extraction which is commonly used for fruit peels. The water extraction method is used for flowers because of their light weight.

How do you use essential oils?

Many have heard of aromatherapy – it’s a term depicting the practice of inhaling essential oils to improve health and well-being and address specific physical and mental discomforts.

There are various methods to inhale these oils: diffusers are increasingly becoming a staple in many households because they are an easy method to evaporate essential oils throughout the room.  Essential oils can be easily added to body lotions and massage oils, as well as hot baths. Aromatherapy jewelry are an easy all day method to inhale essential oils. Most jewelry have lockets to which you can add a felt pad infused with essential oil. They come as necklaces or bracelets that you can wear to work and school. Check out the Kandala stainless steel aromatherapy jewelry.
